There are plenty of calendar apps out there that try to offer various functionalities but don't really do a good job. But, Wave Calendar does exactly what it says, and it does it right. Well, for the most part. With a slick Material Design look and feel, this calendar offers just what is needed and a little bit more to spice up your daily calendar usage.
Like other calendars, Wave Calendar offers day view, week view, week agenda, month view, month agenda and list view. One of the features that stand out in this calendar app that is not available in default Google Calendar is the display of weather in every view. This is pretty helpful, especially when you have outdoor events in your calendar you can plan ahead. It also has a Todo app embedded in the calendar which is useful to track both your events and your tasks in one place. The Tasks part of the app gives you an option to integrate with Google Tasks enabling you to add, edit or remove tasks from other tasks apps that connect with Google. The calendars are color coded and the month view has little colored dots on each day for the corresponding calendars. The split screen in the month view helps to see the whole month at a glance as well as the list of events for the day selected and also giving the weather information for that day. The lists everywhere in the app have card UI
making the contents look clean and simple.

One feature about this calendar that sets it apart from other calendars is Discover. Opening this will take you to a plethora of other calendars like sports calendars, stock exchange, holidays of over 200 countries, religious calendars, etc. They're all neatly categorized and are priced reasonably. I say reasonably because if you buy one calendar in a category, all the calendars in that category become available for free. And the calendars are priced at $1.34. This feature impressed me for another reason. If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you can change the country. For example, if you're browsing sports calendars and the current country is set to United States, you get Top Sports as NFL, NBA, etc. Change it to India and you get Cricket, F1, Badminton, and other calendars. It is currently a little buggy at the moment. But it's a neat feature to have. The Wave Calendar also offers good notifications that have snooze button (unlike Google Calenar) which is useful to postpone certain notifications.
The app as well as the widgets are very customizable. There are 3 widgets - day icon that says which day it is, the agenda view that shows the list of events over a week's period and the month view that shows pretty much what is seen in the month view of the app and it takes up the entire screen.
As nice as it looks and performs for a typical calendar app, there are few things that need improvement. Firstly, the month view widget shows a grey dot on each day that has an event (or any number of events). This grey dot is not very helpful though there is a list under it with color coded events. The colored dots, as seen in the app, would have been helpful. Secondly, the Tasks functionality is pretty limited. I can only set the due date, but not the time. Also, there is no way to set reminders. I'm really hoping to see location based reminders along with the normal date/time picker. Thirdly, to see the weather and travel information, I am asked to sign in to the app (Google/Facebook login can be used). I don't understand why the sign-in is necessary to enable these functionalities. If I have to sync tasks with my Google account, it makes sense. Else, I don't see any reason for a mandatory sign in to use these features. Also, there is no functionality to log out or disconnect my account. Finally, there are some minor glitches in the UI, but I'm sure it will be addressed in the upcoming releases.
Overall, I really like this calendar app and I can see myself using it at least for few weeks. I like the color combination, the elegance and the functionalities it offers. I'd definitely recommend this app if you're the kind of person that cares about look and feel, weather updates in your calendar, tasks integration and easy of adding other calendars.
